“Zero Carbon,” “Zero Emissions,” and “Carbon Neutral” are all terms that are used to describe efforts to reduce the environmental impact of human activities. Here’s a brief explanation of each term:

Zero Carbon: “Zero Carbon” refers to the goal of eliminating carbon emissions from human activities. This can be achieved through a variety of means, such as using renewable energy sources like solar or wind power, or by reducing energy consumption through energy efficiency measures.

Zero Emissions: “Zero Emissions” is a broader term that refers to the goal of eliminating all greenhouse gas emissions from human activities, not just carbon dioxide and monoxide emissions. This includes emissions of gases like methane and nitrous oxide, which are also major contributors to climate change.

Carbon Neutral: “Carbon Neutral” refers to the goal of balancing carbon emissions with carbon removal or offsetting. This can be achieved by reducing carbon dioxide emissions through energy efficiency measures or the use of renewable energy sources, and by offsetting any remaining emissions through activities like reforestation or carbon capture and storage.

When it comes to choosing a river cruise that is less damaging to the environment, you may want to look for cruises that are “Zero Carbon,” “Zero Emissions,” or “Carbon Neutral.” You can also look for cruises that use clean energy sources like solar or hydrogen power, which can help reduce the environmental impact of your trip.

One such project is the proposed "Queen of the Nile" vessel, that is solar and hydrogen powered, and designed as a river cruiser and technology showcase.

EGYPES: Egypt is host to a dedicated energy event in February 2024, in Cairo, at the International Conference Centre. The aim being to smooth transition from fossil fuels to more sustainable, or carbon neutral technologies. At this event you can hear to voices of Arabian and African oil producing nations. Presumably speaking about mitigation measures such as carbon capture and other carbon offsets, to allow continued production of oil and natural gas until truly sustainable hydrogen, solar and wind generated electricity becomes more widely available.
